三十三間堂

My family made it to Japan, and after a night of rest we set out to see Kyoto.

Kyoto, and the region around it, Kansai, is sightseeing central. The first thing we saw on our first day was 三十三間堂 (Sanjyuusan-gen dou "Thirty Three Gen Hall").  The hall is filled with thousands of spectacular Buddhist statues set on display, but photography is forbidden within the hall itself. For that reason, the next photo is not one taken by me, but instead one I found on the net.

These same statues are repeated endlessly over the thirtty-three lengths of the hall, and spaced out evenly between them are statues of specific deities, each uniquely fearsome,  with a final grand Buddha in the middle of the room. After seeing the insides, we played about in the garden.
