Retiring this laser-beam of a rope today
Retiring this laser-beam of a rope today.
I bought it in Singapore over Christmas from @kineticsclimbing. They thought I popped in out of the blue because I had heard about their sale - I hadn't, but I was sure grateful it was happening. They were the only shop that had long *skinny* ropes. Rather, I was there because of the core shot I'd put in our last 70 in Li Ming while giving a redpoint burn on Ding Dong's Crack. There's a photo of that somewhere back in my stream... The first trip the rope went on with me was to outer space - I remember stuffing it in my tiny about-town pack and rushing to the movie theater to watch the newly-released Star Wars movie with @megsmegge, @micfleure, @albifu, @eliasfu_ and @madsflur.
Since then, I've used the rope seemingly every week. It's a radical @edelweissropes_usa line, and no one ever disagreed when I suggested we use my line over theirs. It's seen a lot of love in the last six months. Its final route, yesterday, took it twelve pitches up the Chief via Sunset Strip (sunsetting the rope on Sunset, I like that) - with a week old core shot in it. I was pretty sure we weren't going to fall, so that's okay (?). Still, this isn't just the death of seventy meter. It's also the birth of a new Wild Iris / Smoke Bluffs rope, once I lop off twenty meters with @climbonsquamish's hot knife...
